Voices at Varsity Spirit

Alexis Gass
As a high school graduate, I began working within the Varsity Spirit family as a UCA Staff member teaching summer camps across the nation. I have been with the company for a total of 7 years ranging from the social media team to a registration specialist for the All Star division, and I currently serve as a Marketing Specialist for our championships and special events. In this role, I have the honor of spearheading marketing efforts and communication behind our Walt Disney World Championships and our Special Events which brings me incredible opportunities to travel across the country and see different cities.  

Before starting full-time at Varsity Spirit, I held positions at other companies in the non-profit sector however I found myself longing to be able to work within an industry that I was passionate about. The best mentors in my life came from Varsity Spirit and I am grateful to now work alongside them. I even met my fiancé here!

Varsity Brands has been a large part of my adulthood and has given me resources to choose my own career path. They trusted me the day I accepted my role to be able to help create memorable experiences for our customers and seeing this come to life at our championships is incredibly meaningful.

I started working for Varsity in 1999 through a temporary service. This job truly changed my life and my perspective on working for such a diverse company. I have truly connected with some amazing people that treat me like I am their true family.

I can remember when I went back to school at 50 years of age and got my high school diploma, and some people on the job found out what I had finally accomplished. They threw me a big party with this big cake and all my co-workers were there congratulating me. It brought tears to my eyes that people actually cared about what I had accomplished. I knew then that this job was not just a Job, but a family. It really touched my heart.

My Varsity family has been with me through some tough times. We are truly one family and I could not think of a better job to work for than Varsity.

I have had the pleasure of being a Talent Acquisitions Advisor for Varsity Brands for one and half years. During a time when many Americans were losing their jobs due to the pandemic, I was impressed with the commitment the company showed in developing their TA department to make sure all candidates, hired or not, had a favorable experience.  In my role, I connect with hiring managers, source and screen candidates, and research different avenues to diversify our talent and strengthen our brand.

Varsity Brands is not solely motivated by the bottom line, but genuinely cares about each employee, the community we serve, and the shared goal of raising the student experience, especially during the time of the global pandemic. From my experience, Varsity is as inclusive an organization as there is, and one where employee voices are heard and acknowledged.
